Career Goals

Through nursing and the University of New Hampshire Master’s in Nursing/ Clinical Nurse Leader program, I hope to integrate my experiences in feminist health-care and midwifery through working within the mainstream women’s health-care system. My goals for practice include research into and implementation of quality improvement measures surrounding pre, ante and post-natal care and research into the implications of birth practices on women's mental health. I have experienced health-care from two unique outsider perspectives (abortion care and out of hospital midwifery care) and understand advocacy intimately. I can see a path to improving outcomes for mothers and babies within the hospital through a focus on evidence based practice, patient centered care, and increased communication between providers and birthing women. My goal is to combine my previous experience and understanding of advocacy with my training as a CNL in evidence based practice to assist hospitals in improving safety of care and patient satisfaction. I can see the role of the CNL coming into full bloom in L&D and post-partum care.
